At the heart of our faith is the Paschal mystery:
the Passion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. All of salvation history leads up to and goes forth from these saving events.

Nuestra celebración de la Semana Santa comienza cuando recordamos y hacemos presente la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén para comenzar su última semana e iniciar su pasión.
Our celebration of Holy Week commences as we remember and make present the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem to begin His final week and initiate His Passion.

-El Obispo, acompañado por los sacerdotes de la diócesis, se reúnen en la Catedral para celebrar la Misa del Santo Crisma. La Misa manifiesta la unidad de los sacerdotes con su Obispo.
-También, el Obispo bendice tres aceites—el aceite de los catecúmenos, el aceite de los enfermos y el santo crisma—estos serán utilizados para administrar los sacramentos en la diócesis durante el año.
-The bishop, joined by the priests of the diocese, gather at the Cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop.
-Also, the bishop blesses three oils — the oil of catechumens, the oil of the infirm and holy chrism— which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the diocese for the year.

Después de la Última Cena, Jesús y los apóstoles hicieron un corto viaje a través del valle de Cedrón hasta el Huerto de Getsemaní, donde les pidió que oraran mientras experimentaba su agonía (cf. Mt 26:30).
Es una antigua costumbre pasar algún tiempo ante el Santísimo Sacramento en reposo en esta noche. Mientras oramos, estamos con Jesús en el Jardín mientras Él pasa por Su agonía.
After the Last Supper, Jesus and the apostles made a short journey across the Kidron Valley to the Garden of Gethsemane, where He asked them to pray while He experienced His agony (cf Mt 26:30).
It is an ancient custom to spend some time before the reposed Blessed Sacrament on this night. As we pray, we are with Jesus in the Garden as He goes through His agony.

Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, March 29
Durante toda la noche anterior, Jesús había estado encerrado en el calabozo de la casa del sumo sacerdote. A última hora de la mañana, Jesús fue llevado por soldados a través de la ciudad y por la ladera del Gólgota. Al mediodía, había sido clavado en la cruz, donde estuvo colgado en agonía durante unas tres horas. Jesús murió aproximadamente a las tres de la tarde. Fue bajado de la cruz y colocado apresuradamente en una tumba antes de la puesta del sol.
All through the previous night, Jesus had been locked in the dungeon of the high priest’s house. Late in the morning, Jesus was taken by soldiers through the city and up the hillside of Golgotha. By noon, He had been nailed to the cross, where He hung in agony for some three hours. Jesus died at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon. He was taken down from the cross and hastily placed in a tomb before sundown.

Tonight, after sundown, we gather for the great Easter Vigil, where we experience Jesus’ rising from the dead. He lives! Our Easter Vigil ushers in an Easter joy that never ends!
